Manufacturing reference

What this reference shows, and what you would decide.

A seated character wearing a cactus shell, which is a costume build rather than a plant.

The cactus is a hooded outer shape sewn over a cream faced body, so the pattern is two garments rather than one animal. The shell has to sit at the same height on every unit, or the face is framed wrongly. Ribs on the shell are quilted lines rather than seams, and the short arms carry contrast tips. A bandana is a separate accessory with its own material, its own colour approval and its own safety question.

Buyers choose this build when a range needs several characters that share one body block and change only the shell. Decide how much of the face the hood may cover, whether the shell is fixed or removable, and whether the bandana is allowed at your age grade.

Decisions this product type puts in front of you

  • Materials Pile height, backing weight and fill density set both the look and the price. Ask for a fabric card, approve a lab dip against your artwork, and remember that a long pile hides seams and swallows embroidered detail.
  • Face and features Embroidery, appliqué, print and heat transfer each hold detail differently on a raised pile. Choose per feature rather than per product, and decide whether eyes are embroidered or moulded before the age grade is fixed.
  • Safety and certification Age grade drives the eye and nose method, the seam strength target and which small parts rule applies. Confirm the destination market before the pattern is cut, since the test list is not the same everywhere.
  • Tooling and quantity A plush is cut and sewn, so setup sits in pattern making and sampling rather than steel. Quantity mostly moves fabric buying and line time, which is why a second colourway costs far less than a second sculpt.
  • Packaging Plush ships compressed or uncompressed and the choice changes carton count, freight and how the product looks when the box is opened. Decide the recovery time you are willing to accept.
