What the build has to support

NFC or RFID
Tag reading fixes the antenna position, the read distance and the tag format before the enclosure is closed. Decide who encodes the tags, how a new title reaches a product already in a home, and what the unit does when it is handed a tag it does not know.
Custom audio
Custom audio is a content project as much as a hardware one: script, casting, recording, mastering and a file naming scheme. Agree the language list, the rights owner and the route a revised track takes to the line before the first sample.

Decisions this product type puts in front of you

  • Tag format and encoding Settle the chip family, the data written to each tag and who writes it. Encoding in the factory and encoding in your own warehouse lead to different tooling, different packing and different ways of fixing a mistake.
  • Where the antenna sits Read distance is decided by the antenna, the surrounding plastic and any metal or magnet near it. Fix the reading position in the sculpt so a child gets the same result every time rather than hunting for a sweet spot.
  • Growing the library Plan how title twenty reaches a product sold with title one. Fixed onboard sets, downloadable packs and reprintable tags are three different businesses, and the enclosure has to be designed for whichever one you pick.
  • Power and standby A reader that listens all day drains a cell. Decide the wake behaviour, the idle timeout and whether the product charges or takes replaceable cells before the case is tooled around a battery.
  • Safety and certification Tags and figures that leave the product are separate parts with their own size, coating and pull test questions. Set the age grade and the markets before you fix the figure size.

Send this and we can quote something close to it

  • How many titles ship in the box and how many the library should reach.
  • Whether tags sit in figures, cards or discs, and who encodes them.
  • Audio languages, and whether the tracks are licensed or original.
  • Destination markets and the age grade you intend to print.
  • Quantity and how replacement tag sets are sold.
