A movement that has to be felt through fabric changes the whole build. The moving element needs a rigid mounting, a quiet drive and a fill density that transmits the motion instead of absorbing it. Pile height and stuffing weight are now functional specifications rather than aesthetic ones. A curly lamb fleece is the hardest surface to read motion through, which is exactly why it is worth testing on one.
Use this reference when the product is sold as a sleep aid rather than a toy. Decide the cycle rate, how quiet the mechanism has to be at a cot side, how the unit is removed for washing, and what the product does when it is left running.
