An armoured, low slung dinosaur, which is the opposite pattern problem to a long necked one.
An ankylosaurus is wide and close to the ground, so the body block is short. The character is then carried by the studs along the back and by the tail club rather than by height. Each stud is a small stuffed dome attached to a curved surface, which is a repeated operation and a repeated pull test point. A heavy tail end also wants to drag the toy over unless the fill weight is balanced front to back.
Choose this reference when the range needs a stocky silhouette next to the tall sauropods. Decide the stud count and diameter first, since those two numbers set both the character and the assembly cost. Then set how firm the tail club has to be at your age grade.
Decisions this product type puts in front of you
- Sculpt and proportion Dinosaur characters sell on head to body ratio and expression. Agree the proportion at a sculpt review, because a few millimetres on the muzzle changes how friendly the whole animal reads, and it is cheap to fix there.
- Contrast materials Spines, plates, claws, horns and belly panels are usually a second and third fabric. Confirm every contrast material at the same time as the body fabric so one mill can hold all of the shades across the run.
- Applied parts and pull tests Every plate, spike and claw is an attachment point a pull test will find. Choose sewn in against glued or moulded before sampling, and set the age grade first, since that is what decides the force the joint has to survive.
- Tooling and quantity Setup here is pattern making and the sculpt review rather than steel. A family of dinosaurs sharing one body block is far cheaper than a family of unrelated sculpts, which is worth knowing before you pick the range.
- Packaging Long necks, tails and dorsal plates do not fold the way a bear does. Plan the carton around the real silhouette and decide how long the toy has to recover its shape after compression.
